Summer -- time off to write

15-May-2012

The Pen Parentis Literary Salons are dark for the Summer
but we will resume our free monthly programs on
September 11, 2012
with the public presentation of our 2012 Pen Parentis Fellow
at a new location!

7pm in the private dining room at Wall and Water
in the Andaz Wall Street, 75 Wall Street, NYC.

It is a very special date
and we are planning a very special program
to launch our eighth season of Salons.
Mark your calendars!

Last season our salons featured 15 authors of fiction and 3 poets including the poet laureate of Brooklyn. We heard stories of transformation, of single-parent hardships, of writing from a closet, of children claiming authorship, of inspiration in odd places, and of winning unexpected prizes--every story unique and every story an inspiration. Thanks to everyone who participated, either as reader or as audience. As a reminder - the readings are available as podcasts on this site and the panel discussions are available to Pen Parentis members for unlimited listening.

We are using our annual summer break to review applications for the Pen Parentis Writing Fellowship for New Parents, to organize a literary celebration for kids, and to explore the possibility of Pen Parentis LA--a series of Pen Parentis salons on the West Coast.  How are you using yours?

Here are some suggestions:  take a writing class, meet an author you know on FB for coffee, attend a reading, submit an entry for our new blog, haul a book from your bookshelf you've always been meaning to read, finish your novel, rework your writing bio and choose a great author shot that looks like you... do something amazing. We'll see you in September!
