The annual Pen Parentis Writing Fellowship for New Writers was founded in 2010 to encourage writers to produce new works of quality fiction at the very busiest point in their parenting...
It was so exciting to co-sponsor a masterclass on performing at public readings as a writer. Our participants included (among others) a new novelist, a New York Times published journalist, and a group of ladies with their own traveling show where they perform personal essays! So lovely to meet you all–!
Thanks to the amazing experts at Vital Voices , our participants and observers learned:
How to land your first sentence
How to pause to gain meaning
How to hold a script
How to read a list
How to deal with audience bias
How to connect with an audience
How to separate this from that
Secret tools to give your reading an edge
Circles of communication energy
And then individually, the participants were given advice to create a personal symbiosis of visuals, content and tone.
It was an intense 90 minutes!!
