Crys/Crystal/Cristal Herrera Pereira (she/hers)

TEAM LEADER for the new WRITING RACE MEETUP GROUP.

Crys is currently studying Ethnicity and Race at Columbia University (Class of ‘23), with a focus on cultural productions. A storyteller and poet, she writes on food, identity, culture, race, inequities, and motherhood. She is currently working on a poetic zine for first-time Black and Brown breastfeeders as part of her senior thesis.

Crys spends her time as Project Manager at Anahsa Consulting, a Black woman led organization committed to disrupting educational inequities by supporting individuals in building anti-racist and culturally responsive classrooms. This commitment transcends Crystal’s home where she works to decolonize ways of parenting and existing.

Mother to a creative ninja, Eli (7), and a baby with a face, Zion (5 months). Crys works with her husband in confronting trauma, creating healthy boundaries, and liberating their home.

In addition, Crys is a trained chef and self-taught baker. When she isn’t reading, writing, or dancing… She is creating nourishing meals, baking cakes and sharing them with all those in her life.
