Author’s Bio
Leigh Newman’s memoir Still Points North (Dial Press) about her Alaskan childhood premiered at a Pen Parentis Salon while still in manuscript form. It was subsequently a finalist for the National Book Critic’s Circle John Leonard Prize (coincidence? maybe.)
Her fiction, essays and book reviews have appeared in One Story, Tin House, The New York Times Modern Love and Sunday Book Review, Fiction, New York Tyrant, Vogue, O The Oprah Magazine, Real Simple Bookforum, Condé Nast Brides, Condé Nast Concierge, Travel Holiday, Ski, and Arthur Frommer’s Budget Travel. She has received fellowships from the Corporation of Yaddo and teaches at Sarah Lawrence and NYU in Paris. She currently serves as Books Editor of Oprah.com and as an editor-at-large for the indie press Catapult Publishing( https://catapult.co/ She lives in Brooklyn with her husband, two boys, and stuffed-animal-eating manic puppy.
Leigh has read twice at Pen Parentis Literary Salons and serves on the Advisory Board. She looks forward to mentoring writers who are parents through the Pen Parentis Cycle of Support.
